William Quek have had a long life. He was 92.
Over the last few years it was long and painful. He had spent so much of his waking hours remembering his childhood and the decades that he considered himself a young man. He was so old now that even the years when he was between fifty and sixty was perceived as his younger years. His life although long was not without pain and the share of emotional burdens that afflicts all humans. “Grief affects us all”, his therapist told him though after his wife left him when he was in his 70s when she died due to cancer.
During those years after losing his companion of more than sixty year he realized that in death a person you love does not leave you all at once. In his case it took twelve long years. Coming home to an empty house and not having the same person you have loved and whom you have received tender loving care for sixty years being there for you but yet her smell lingered. Her smell slowly left her clothing, her bed sheets and everything she ever touched. Tears streamed down his eyes when he remembered her laughter and chiding which he considered nagging.
His children were grown and were grandfathers themselves. They lived in Canada. After he became bed ridden four years back he found himself punching their numbers on his phone and hanging up. He had been a busy man in his youth and he had worked and put everything that didn’t matter over the people that meant the most to him, His own Children. He would have nothing to speak to them besides the weather. So this is what it was like to lose touch with his children. He grimaced and cried bitterly. Years of pent up pain poured down his cheeks as he wept without shame. He knew that for all the money he accumulated nothing could follow him into the next life.
That very night William Quek had a massive heart attack which ended his mortal life on earth.
Darkness. The place he was in was freezing and he knew he was in a place where the suns heat never touches. “William?”, a voice shot out from the darkness and before him he was a creature brighter than a thousand suns. “Are you God?”, William asked. He was in awe for before him stood the most beautiful creature. It was so beautiful that words alone cannot describe its splendour.
“Yes, you can call me God”, the creature asked.
“So…whats next? Do I get to heaven?”, William Ventured to ask. As he asked this question he realized the body he was in was a body in its youth. Gone were the wasted bony arms and legs. Gone were the wrinkled face and body.
“No. Heaven is not a place for you yet. One day perhaps but not yet. You will be sent back to earth.” The voice told him in a tone that was so smooth and reassuring that he felt he could just listen to it forever. The years of pain and misery had lifted off his chest and in it replaced a huge longing to just fall down and worship this God.
“Then if it not heaven what will become of me?” William ventured to ask.
“Well William, You will be reincarnated. I am sending you back to 5th Century England where you will live your life as a royal Celtic princess.”, God casually told William as he led him gently to a huge ring which radiated pinkish light.
“Will i remember anything? When can I stay here forever with you? Time has no meaning in this place? Why do I have to be a girl? Can I be a boy?”, William blurted out. He had a million questions running through his soulish mind.
“Yes one day you can stay here forever but not today. You will remember nothing of your previous lives or our conversation unfortunately. Time is nothing but an illusion. Your scientist thinks they may have already figured out that all time is connected in just Space Time. Past, present and future exist in harmony with each other. In case you have not figured out you are the man that I created in my image. You will live out each of all the billions of lives in every human on earth. At the end you will become like me.” God spoke bluntly while William hung on every word that was mentioned. A series of buttons were pressed and the ring now radiated orange.
“You mean I am also Stalin the man who killed millions?” William ventured to ask.
“Yes and you are also the millions of men that were killed by him. Each time you did something good, you were doing the good to yourself and each act of cruelty and sin was also done to yourself.” God now guided William to stand in the middle of the ring.
“Wait before I leave this place I have one last question. Who is Satan and is there others like you?” William blurted out in panic thinking that any moment he would be sent back to earth.
God smiled, pressed two more buttons and told William, “Satan too has many names and yes there are so many others like myself. One day you too would join me at my right hand. All your questions would be answered then. We shall meet again William.” The ring now suddenly turned bright yellow and William who was so intently staring at all the proceedings ceased to exist.
The year was 481A.D. A baby’s cry emitted from deep inside the recesses of Bamburg Castle. Baby Morgana was comforted and cuddled by her elder brother, Master Arthur. He was ten this year and he had been excitedly waiting to see his sister and welcome her into his world. His father Uther Pendragon had given permission that on this date there was no need for Arthur to learn sword practice or perform any studies under his tutors.
